Our Workshop & Staff

The Empty Box Company has a workshop in Devon, where all our boxes are hand made by artistic trained individuals. It takes at least 6 weeks to be trained to make even just a starter number of the boxes, and our more experienced staff, with several year’s knowledge & practice, to do the more complicated ones. With over 80 different designs and sizes of box, and new types of boxes and designs being introduced every year, there is a lot to learn!

The Empty Box Company provides jobs for artistic enthusiastic individuals. Our staff work in an inspiring creative atmosphere located in rural areas, sustaining art in industry and green employment in countryside.

In addition to James and Giselle, our staff include:

Devon workshop: Rosie, Louise, Zoe, Erica, Tim, Joely, Ollie, Pippa, & Betsy. Claire is our calligrapher, and Holly our Book-keeper.

Helen works from our satellite office in Harrogate, Bethany in Bath, and Sarah in Surrey.

The Devon workshop recently received grant funding to help put in a mezzanine floor, from Greater Dartmoor LEAF funding. This project was to increase the production floor space for making boxes. In 2019, we will receive a grant towards a digital cutter, to help us cut our board, and create new sizes and bespoke boxes.
