How To Take Care of Your Wedding Dress – Part 1
If you are getting married soon, congratulations! Wedding season is in full swing and I’m sure your preparations are going smoothly. It is such an exciting time with so much to organise and think about, so I don’t want to add to your plate. But I thought I would share a few tips for looking after your wedding dress, both before the day itself and afterwards.

Before the Wedding
Hopefully your dress will be able to stay in the shop you bought it from until pretty close to your wedding day, as they will have designated storage areas where your dress can be kept out of harms way. But as soon as you bring it home, there are a few things to remember.
- If it is in any sort of plastic, take it out and have it just in its dress bag. Dress bags are not suitable for long-term storage, but they are fine for a few weeks and offer some protection to the dress whilst still being breathable. Dresses should never be left in plastic for any length of time.
- Keep away from pets, children, and the kitchen! The first two are pretty self explanatory, but something people often overlook is cooking smells from the kitchen (especially if you are into your spices!). Delicate fabrics will often retain smell for a long time and it can be incredibly hard to get rid of.
- Take it out of the bag when you can and let it hang & breathe. This is especially important if you have a long train or a lot of layers to the dress.

And That’s Not All…
That’s probably enough information for today, but keep an eye out for another post on the website soon (about how to store your wedding dress after the wedding day!).
